The delegation received a warm reception by the Honourable Ambassador and senior officials of the Embassy. After exchanging pleasantries, Dr. Zaidi gave a briefing on COMSATS to H.E. Maj. Gen (Retd) Ibrahim Yala Al Madani. Apprising the Ambassador of relationship between COMSATS and Jordan, Dr. Zaidi informed that Jordan is one of the founding members of COMSATS and Royal Scientific Society (RSS), COMSATS’ Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Jordan, has always played an active part in programmes and activities of the Organization, and is engaged in meaningful collaborations with other CoEs.

During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the multilateral cooperative schemes for the mutual benefit of COMSATS Member States, such as student and faculty exchange; R&D projects in emerging areas of S&T; post-graduate scholarships; and holding of capacity building and training activities. The Ambassador was told that the establishment of COMSATS University in Nigeria and Sri Lanka is on the cards, based on COMSATS’ successful experience of institution building in Pakistan.

Further, Dr. Zaidi informed about his plan to visit Jordan in February 2019, where he would like to have an audience with the President and other office bearers of RSS with the purpose to foster bilateral ties as well as explore common grounds for cooperation in the areas having a bearing on the sustainable development. During the meeting, the matter of selection of new Chairperson of COMSATS for the next term was also touched upon.

The meeting ended on a cordial note to further the collaboration in S&T for the benefit of the developing world.
