Delegation from Kenya’s IT Department Explores Collaborative Opportunities at COMSATS

A delegation comprising officials from Kenya’s IT department, Ms. Fridah M. Mwangangi and Mr. Osbert K. Kororia, accompanied by Mr. Masoud J. Rasam, Counsellor of the Kenyan High Commission, paid a visit to the COMSATS Telehealth Resource Centre on March 5, 2024. Mr. Irfan Hayee, Additional Director(Programs) at COMSATS, facilitated the delegation, while Dr. Azeema Fareed, Additional Director of Health at the Resource Centre, coordinated and conducted the visit.

During the visit, the delegation received an overview of the Telehealth service model operating in remote areas of Balochistan. They expressed interest in the technological aspects of the Telehealth system, particularly its security features for data protection. The delegation interacted with the doctors working at the Resource Centre, inquiring about patient load, satisfaction levels, and the benefits of the service. They also showed interest in the patient software used for data exchange.

Ms. Fridah elaborated on Kenya’s health system, highlighting the predominant role of nurses in basic health facilities. The hosts underscored role of paramedics in the program, the benefits of Telehealth and insights into daily patient turnout.

Following the visit to the Telehealth Resource Centre, the delegation met with the Executive Director of COMSATS to explore avenues of collaboration. Discussions focused on potential support from COMSATS in cybersecurity and further cooperation in the field of Telehealth to benefit Kenya.

This visit marks a significant step towards fostering partnerships between COMSATS and Kenya in advancing healthcare and cybersecurity initiatives.
