On 22nd June 2017 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between COMSATS and Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPD), Islamabad-Pakistan. IPD is an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit think-tank, which aims to strengthen global peace through dialogues and diplomacy by sharing knowledge, research and analysis and policy development in the areas of peace, conflict, development and diplomatic studies.
Senior officials from both organizations participated in the signing ceremony. The MoU has been signed on the premise that COMSATS and IPD will collaborate in organizing various events to promote South-South and North-South cooperation. The broad areas of cooperation stipulated in the agreement include
- Exchange of Expertise and Intellectual Resources;
- Capacity Building in various areas relating to of Sustainable Development;
- Promotion of Programmes and Activities;
- Policy Advice and Strategy Formulation.
According to the MoU, COMSATS and IPD will establish prior consensus for arrangements of collaborative matters regarding the administrative and financial resources to be utilized for the agreed joint activities, with due consideration towards intellectual property rights.
Mr. Bilal Chohan, Director (A&E), COMSATS and Muhammad Asif Noor, Director, IPD, signed the MoU. The Executive Director COMSATS, Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi and President IPD, Mrs. Farhat Asif, also witnessed the signing.
In his remarks after the signing, the Executive Director COMSATS praised the efforts of IPD for developing different informative capacity-building programmes and strengthening relationship within diplomatic community through various means. He also thanked the President IPD for joining hands with COMSATS and ensured her of full cooperation for promoting joint activities in the field of Science and Technology.
