8th December 2023. On the sidelines of COP28@Dubai, COMSATS took center stage at the Pakistan Pavilion orchestrating a dynamic and impactful focused group discussion under the theme, “Why Youth Voices Matter for a Greener World.”
The event saw participation from Global Climate Youth Leaders, hailing from over 30 countries, predominantly from the global south.
The Executive Director COMSATS, Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, in his welcoming remarks underlined the power of the youth and need for galvanising their energy to play due role in addressing the formidable global challenges including the Climate Change.
He invited the young participants to share their respective initiatives on climate change, their assessment and ideas. He emphasised that the youngsters were leaders in their own right and a force to reckon with.
Throughout the discussion, youth leaders showcased their projects, initiatives and brilliant ideas pertaining to the approaches aimed at combatting climate crises in their respective countries, illustrating the impact of their endeavors.
Ambassador Nafees assured the youth leaders of COMSATS’ unwavering support in promoting their work towards the common goal of ‘curing the climate pandemic.’
Ambassador Zakaria’s proposal for the establishment of a Social Group comprising the participating youth leaders was welcomed. He assigned the young COMSATS representative Mr. Qaiser Nawab to act as a coordinator of “Young Climate Partner Group for Comsats – YCPGC.”
The discussion at the Pakistan Pavilion focused on empowering youth voices for environmental sustainability, acknowledging the pivotal role the younger generation plays in shaping a greener and more sustainable world.
A symbolic group photo marked the conclusion of the event, capturing the collective commitment of young leaders to preserve and enhance the health of our planet.
COMSATS, which consistently pursues the cause of environmental sustainability and Climate Care, undertook to leverage the passion and innovations by the youth across the globe whereas YCPGC would serve as a Prime Mover to that end.
