CIIT holds its 39th and 40th Convocations of Islamabad

Twelve hundred and sixty seven (1,267) successful students of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Islamabad, received their graduate and post-graduate degrees at the 39th and 40th convocation held in Islamabad, on January 26, 2012. A total of 1,181 BS degrees were awarded in the disciplines of bio-informatics, biosciences, business administration, computer engineering, electrical (telecommunication and computer engineering), electronics, mathematics and architecture. Seventy five MS degrees were awarded in the disciplines of management sciences, electrical engineering, architecture, physics, computer science, biosciences, metrology and mathematics. Moreover, Ph.D degrees were awarded to 11 students in the disciplines of physics, biosciences and mathematics.

The Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan, H. E. Mir Changez Khan Jamali, who is also the Chancellor of CIIT, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He awarded degrees and medals to the successful students. Addressing the gathering, the Minister appreciated the dedication and hardwork of the faculty, as well as the management and visionary leadership of the university in providing quality higher education in Pakistan.

Mr. Jamali said that the university, dispensing its national duties well, was committed to providing the best opportunities to students for learning and personal development within a caring and congenial environment.

Speaking on the occasion, the Rector CIIT, Dr. S.M. Junaid Zaidi, said, “Information Technology (IT) institutions have been trusted to be the centre stage of academia. These institutions have the mandate to evolve a knowledge-based socio-economic culture in the country to help the nation face the modern challenges of globalization.

Four different medals – Chancellor’s, Institute, Campus and Patron – were also awarded to position holders from different campuses of CIIT. Another highlight of the occasion was the announcement of two awards: ‘Dr Q. K. Ghori Award’ for the best performer in mathematics; and ‘Kausar Bashir Award’ (KBA) for the best thesis in architecture.
