As a regional player advocating South-South and Triangular Cooperation, COMSATS was invited to participate in United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC)’s event on 2020 UN Regional South-South and Triangular Cooperation Focal Points Network Retreat, held on 15th December 2020.
Amb. (R) Fauzia Nasreen, Advisor (SDGs) at COMSATS Secretariat, shared COMSATS’ stance during the session on “Digitalization as a cross-cutting issue in United Nations programmes and the role for South-South and Triangular Cooperation” of the event. Speaking on the occasion, she considered creation of digital societies imperative especially in the current times of COVID-19 pandemic. She suggested creating mutlistakeholder forums, strengthening digital literacy, and empowering youth and women through building capacity to help bridge North-South digital divide and address issues and problems of developing countries.
Sharing COMSATS’ on-going and future initiatives for leveraging digital technologies for the betterment of the South, Amb. Fauzia stated that such initiatives based on creative approaches have promoted capacity building, helped share knowledge, experience and good practices, as well as technological and scientific resources.
