Executive Director COMSATS briefed about the Physics Department of CIIT (30th June 2009)

On invitation from the Rector, CIIT, the Executive Director COMSATS alongwith Director (Academics) CIIT visited the Department of Physics at Chak Shahzad Campus, Islamabad. The briefing given by the Head of Department, Dr. Muhammad Aslam Khan, touched upon the issues of student enrollment, faculty strength, quality of under-graduate education and research work being undertaken at the Department and Centre for Quantum Physics. The Executive Director was informed that BS (Physics) is being offered at Islamabad and Lahore Campuses while BS (Electronics), MS (Physics) and Ph.D (Physics) degrees are offered at Islamabad Campus. There are 42 Ph.D students currently registered at CIIT who are at different stages of their research work. There is a good sized faculty comprising of 79 members, includes lecturers, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and full Professor. Besides, there are three reputed scientists working as advisors and 8 member research team is at Centre for Quantum Physics. About 20 faculty members are currently abroad for higher studies.

The department has established state-of-the-art laboratories in the field of nano-science, radiation physics and materials studies.
