The University of Granada (UGR), Spain, become the 25th Member of COMSATS Network of International S&T Centres of Excellence on 23rd September 2023. The Coordinating Council, a statutory body of COMSATS, approved the membership upon receiving favourable inputs from the members of COMSATS Technical Advisory Committee.
UGR is the first European institution that has become a part of COMSATS Network, which is expected to boost scientific collaboration amongst the Network members. Formally founded in 1531, UGR is one of the largest universities in Spain having five campuses in Granada while two campuses are in North African cities of Ceuta and Melilla, making it one of the few genuinely intercontinental universities around the world.
The University is ranked at 4th place in Spain and features among the top 300 universities in the world as per Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU 2019). The University offers 89 bachelor’s degrees, over 100 Master’s degrees and 28 Doctoral programs through its 129 departments in 27 centers. The R&D focus of the university is on health sciences, geosciences, engineering, psychology, and mathematics.
With induction of UGR to COMSATS Network, its Rector, Prof. Pedro Mercado Pacheco, has become ex-officio member of COMSATS Coordinating Council.
