Webinar on International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS)

[ Flyer ]

Declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS) marks a decade of advocacy for increasing the representation of women in science fields, highlighting their pivotal role in driving economic growth, innovation and  sustainable development.

Despite progress, women make up only 30% of the STEM workforce, and this disparity grows when looking at leadership positions within STEM-related industries. The due representation of women in STEM is not just a matter of equity; but an imperative for the continued progress.  Addressing the gender balance is necessary for building a more inclusive and sustainable future. The International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024–2033) is committed to bridging these gender gaps in science and technology to unlock the potential of women and girls in STEM.

As part of its mission, COMSATS has been actively working towards integrating S&T into the development policies of Global South countries. In line with the ongoing International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development and this year’s theme, COMSATS intend to mark the 10th anniversary of IDWGS by organizing a Webinar with women leaders in STEM from around the world. This event will celebrate the contributions of women in science, share visions and strategies for overcoming barriers, and outline actionable recommendations for achieving gender parity in STEM.
