On 4th May 2026, the Honourable Wafaqi Ombudsman of Pakistan, Mr. Naveed Kamran Baloch, called on the Executive Director COMSATS, Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, at the COMSATS Secretariat to discuss avenues for strengthening institutional collaboration and leveraging science, technology, and innovation (STI) to enhance public service delivery and promote sustainable development.
Welcoming the distinguished guest, the Executive Director briefed him on COMSATS’ mandate, strategic priorities, and ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing developmental challenges through science and technology. Ambassador Dr. Zakaria highlighted the Organization’s efforts in facilitating technology transfer, promoting innovation-driven solutions, and supporting its Member States in adopting emerging technologies for sustainable socio-economic development.
During the discussions, the Executive Director appreciated the Federal Ombudsman’s vision of improving governance, institutional efficiency, and citizen-centric service delivery through the adoption of innovative technological solutions. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of fostering greater collaboration between public institutions to harness science, technology, and innovation for improved governance and sustainable development outcomes.
Recognizing the environmental and economic challenges associated with Pakistan’s transport sector, the Honourable Ombudsman underscored the need to accelerate the country’s transition from conventional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to Electric Vehicles (EVs). He appreciated COMSATS’ leadership in promoting technology transfer in the electric mobility sector and its efforts to facilitate the adoption of sustainable transportation technologies within its Member States.
The meeting also explored practical avenues for collaboration in promoting electric mobility within the public sector. In this regard, it was discussed that AGECO, COMSATS’ technical partner in the electric mobility initiative, would facilitate the provision of electric bikes for officials of the Federal Ombudsman’s Office. The initiative is expected to contribute towards reducing carbon emissions, promoting clean transportation, and demonstrating the viability of sustainable mobility solutions within public institutions.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening institutional cooperation and advancing collaborative initiatives that harness science, technology, and innovation to improve public service delivery while supporting Pakistan’s transition towards a greener and more sustainable future.
