The 12th Meeting of the Governing Board (GB) of the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO) was held online on 5 February 2026. The Executive Director COMSATS, Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, participated in the meeting in his capacity as a Member of the ANSO Governing Board.

The meeting was attended by representatives of eight GB member organizations, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China, the National Academy of Sciences and Techniques of Senegal (ANSTS), Senegal, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA), Serbia, the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS), Mngolia, the National Research Centre (NRC), Egypt, the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), the University of Chile, and the University of Donja Gorica (UDG), Montenegro.

The Governing Board is ANSO’s key statutory forum, which provides strategic direction and oversight. It serves to review ongoing projects, assess progress, and undertake decision-making and planning for future initiatives.

COMSATS is a member of ANSO since 2022 and is an active collaborator. The Executive Director COMSATS is a member of ANSO Governing Board since 2023 and has been re-elected for another term in 2025.COMSATS and ANSO share common objectives and have 14 member countries in common, providing a strong foundation for collaboration in scientific research, capacity building, and innovation-driven sustainable development across the Global South.
