A delegation of junior diplomats from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Pakistan visited the Secretariat of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) for an interactive learning session with the Executive Director COMSATS, Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria.

Drawing on his distinguished diplomatic career and extensive experience at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), as well as his leadership of the Secretariat of an intergovernmental organization, Ambassador Dr. Zakaria shared valuable perspectives on Pakistan’s diplomatic landscape, contemporary foreign policy priorities, and the evolving role of diplomacy in addressing regional and global challenges. The session also highlighted the growing importance of science diplomacy and multilateral cooperation in promoting sustainable development and strengthening partnerships among countries of the Global South.

The interaction provided the visiting diplomats with a valuable opportunity to engage in an open and insightful exchange of views, benefiting from Ambassador Dr. Zakaria’s extensive experience in diplomacy, international negotiations, and multilateral engagement. Discussions also covered the role and mandate of COMSATS in promoting science, technology, and innovation-driven cooperation among its Member States and partner institutions.

During Ambassador Dr. Zakaria’s tenure as Executive Director, interactions with diplomats and high-level delegations from both COMSATS Member and non-Member States accredited to Pakistan have become a regular feature of the Secretariat’s outreach efforts. These engagements have significantly strengthened COMSATS’ diplomatic outreach, promoted mutual understanding, and expanded avenues for scientific and technological cooperation.
