COMSATS' Programmes
COMSATS' programmes are formulated keeping in view all the three aspects of sustainable development, i.e. social, economic and environmental. The mandate of COMSATS lends it the flexibility to work within a wide range of technology spectrum. On the high-end of the spectrum, special attention is being given to build indigenous capacity and competence in the emerging sciences and technologies. On the other end of the spectrum, efforts are being made to bring the benefits of technological revolutions in the areas of education, health, and energy to as large a cross-section of population as possible, particularly in socio-economically disadvantaged sections of COMSATS' Member States.

The thematic areas selected in close consultation with the Member States and Centres of Excellence are listed below:

  • Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs);
  • Internet Security;
  • Natural Products Sciences;
  • Agriculture, Food Security and Biotechnology;
  • Climate Change and Environmental Protection;
  • Nanotechnology;
  • Materials Science;
  • Mathematical Modeling;
  • Construction Materials;
  • Renewable Energies;
  • Science Diplomacy; and
  • S&T Policy and National Innovation Systems.

The thrust areas are revised from time to time in line with the changing national/regional priorities and with expanding expertise within COMSATS' Network of S&T Centres of Excellence.

Within the indicated fields, COMSATS aims at addressing the development issues through exchange of experts, effective policy advocacy, research and development, restructuring of S&T organizations, South-South and North-South collaboration, and dissemination of scientific and technical information.
